TOPIC: 4/22 The Features opening for J,LC in Columbia

It was something like a dream come true when I found out The Features were opening for Jump ... I used to be quite a J,LC fan, but my love for them has really dwindled since they started losing their edge and looking totally bored onstage. The dream coming true part was because FINALLY The Features are playing in Charleston, the beautiful but oft-ignored-by-bands city that I live in.

Anyway, I also made the shortish drive to Columbia last Thursday and was shocked when I arrived at 8:15 and The Features had already started playing...luckily it was just the beginning...literally. haha. they played these songs, but not necessarily in this order:

the beginning (this was the first song)
moses ptosis
the way it's meant to be
see you through
darkroom
thursday

and i think that was it! they had to cut their set really really short AND Columbia has an 11 PM live music curfew, or the club does or something...but the Columbia paper accidentally printed that the show started at 10. they sounded f'in awesome...i was so bummed the last time i tried to see them, because we left late for the show and ended up walking in during the LAST song. this more than made up for it. but i just about cried when jump came on...what a total downer. all i could think about while they were playing was how much i wished the features would've been headlining.

i've seen the jump fans' opinions of the features popping up, but have any of you guys not seen/heard of jump before and seen them on this tour? if so, what did you think?

First and foremost: Welcome to the board!

Glad you had a good time and was able to catch most of the set. How did the crowd seem to feel about The Features?

the crowd was pretty small, i'd say there were maybe 25 people there during the features' set...but they were all fairly appreciative and respectful...i even saw some girls clapping along during 'see you through'!

strangely enough, the club looked sorta like a shithole but had pretty good sound...or maybe it was just the features' sound guy, but whatever it was, they sounded damn good.

that is what happens when someone who knows what they sound like goes on tour with them...and thats the way its meant to be.

Ha! Someone must have taken my Raleigh review under advisement.

I saw JLC 2 or 3 times in 2001-2002, because my roommate was a huge fan. Back then, I liked that they were energetic, I liked some of the songs pretty well, and I liked Jay's voice. I also liked Matt's hyper-gay style. This time, I was disappointed- the new songs seemed mostly the same & were boring to me. But I was never a true fan, so maybe I missed something.

I saw JLC at an outdoor Vandy show a few years back and I thought they were really good. Great energy and pretty interesting songs. I know several people who absolutely love(d) them and I personally think it's good the Features are touring with them (especially if they look even better by contrast!).

I'm going to get banned from the board for this, but keep in mind I was 15. Anyway, I saw JLC open for Rusted Root in '95. I don't remember a whole lot about either band. I've since heard a few JLC songs on Lightning 100, and I thought they were ok. Pretty bland, but ok.

I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

That could have been 1998 or 1999.

In 98, the Features actually played after Self. In 99, they opened the show. Also, I don't think the Fluid Ounces played that show in 99.
