Contrary to my previous post in the RED Rose? topic ... I heard the other night that there could very well be an all ages show at the Red Rose. It will probably happen at the end of the month with Features and Feable Weiner. Start scrimpin' kiddies!

I hate the idea of an all ages Features show but, once in a while isn't too bad, I guess. It'll give the kiddies a taste of the good stuff.

I've read that the Features have an all-ages show with Silent Friction at Next Generation on March 10. I'm really wondering how that is going to work.

I absolutely hate the next generation! I've been there one time and, that was the first and last time but, I guess I could venture out that way for a Features show. I know I could, I don't plan on missing a features show just because I don't care for the venue. I guess I could deal with all the cheesy kids for one night.

i don't think that's necessarily judgemental; it happens to be true.  but... that doesn't mean that someone who is a fan of one will not like the other.  
i know that a lot of people are going to be quick to say 'silent friction sucks' but they've actually gotten quite good.  and that's coming from someone who never liked them before.  so all of you naysayers (?) might be in for a surprise.
but i think the cooler part of the show is going to be exposing kids to the features.  it will be interesting to see what kind of reception they get.  i could see it going either way.  but the features *do* have some younger fans already (like my little brother); you just don't realize it because they can't ever get in to shows.  i mean... how many people on this board were trying to sneak into shows at the boro when they were 16/17?  i'd be willing to bet that there's at least a few.
and i agree... next generation does f'ing suck. but hey, a show is a show. i would rather it be there than not at all.

i never had trouble getting in there, drinking underage was great. i miss sneaking coors lite out of someone's car in the suntrust parking lot and taking them in them

i've heard it's not happening. the normal door policy at next gen. is to have the kids tell the doorman the band they're coming to see. they pay the most popular response. i think rory was trying to get straight up pay for everyone involved. i'm not positive though.

thats a shitty way to do business! paying the most popular? thats about as dumb as 'pay to play' i hate the next generatio anwyas. only shitty 15 year old punk bands play there.

jamiecarroll, i agree wholeheartedly about 'fuck girlfriends.' there are a lot of reasons that silent friction is better than they used to be, not the least of which is matt bell's lyrics. 'get your pussy any other way'? hooray for that.

It's been a while since I have played at Nxt Generation, but the way they did the door back in the day was people would tell the girl at the door who they were there to see, pay like $7, and about 5 of those dollars would go to the band they said they were there to see, and the other $2 would be split evenly, or something like that.
Of course, that is bullshit because:
A) What if you were there to see more than one band?
What if a band was from out of town and even if everyone thought they were really good, no one was there specifically to see them.
C) There has never been a band at Nxt Generation worth $7 to see.

Anyway, the point is, they don't JUST pay the most 'popular' band, although their method of payment is stupid.

I was under the impression most out of town bands demanded a guarantee. I'm of the opinion The Features should cater to the whims of Woody once, and let the results speak for themselves. I attempted vaguely to set up a show with The Features and various other bands at The Nxt Generation several months ago, and everyone was interested....however Rory didnt return my call after giving me his number. Nevertheless, is it completely off now? Someone should probably notify the SF boys if so.

I'd venture to say The Icarus Line got one when they played there, but I can't say that for a fact.

So they split each kid's $7 depending on their response? That seems unnecessarily complicated. Supposedly one can purchase admission for $5 in advance, but I have never heard of anyone managing to accomplish this.

...on the comment of 16/17 year olds liking the Features, I'm 17 and I've liked them for around a year. My first show was at the boro (got in via back door) and I instantly became a fan.

So is this Friction/Features show happening? I saw no mention of it on SF's site, The Nxt Generation's site, or this site, so I assume not. I did, however, see that it is now $8 to see a show at that shithole. I mean, I'm sure Davis, Point Of You, and PossumFuck are all teriffic bands and all, but 8 friggin dollars? I could get almost a whole box of wine for that.

That may be so but, there are only a small handfull of them. The majority of those kids don't know how to act. They think that any time they go to a show it's a time to run-a-muck. We don't need any moshpits at our features shows.

I'm not saying that the shows should be limited to a select few but, I know how kids act and I wouldn't want to go to a features show and have a bunch of punks runnin' around. An all ages show is alright every once in a while but, I wouldn' t like it if it became a regular thing.

sorry to but in, but i'm assuming you're 17 rubberlegs? it would seem that the 18th birthday is just such a right of passage. however i know 24 yr olds who act 16 and vice versa. sure i feel that age is just a number, but there are reasons why most shows are 18+ or 21+.

Just a friendly piece of advice.

I can't add anything to this that hasn't been said otherwise. I think the Features should be heard as far and wide as possible, and that should include people under 18. I also believe that places like the Boro and 12th & Porter have every right to protect their business in terms of reputation and legality. In legality, places who allow under age people inside are going to have a harder time keeping their liquor license, and that's a headache worth avoiding by just barring people under age at the door. They can protect their reputations because unlike places like Chili's and Applebee's, which also serve alcohol, they have no desire to be a 'family' establishment. That includes anyone under 17, regardless of how they act.

The 18th birthday is a rite of passage, and I'm sure all of us had to deal with it in some form when we were 16-17. Is it necessarily fair? Probably not. What's fair is that every one has to wait until they're 18 to do something...and I'm confident most of us can agree with that.

I remember being very frustrated at 18+ shows before I turned 18.  Luckily I have cool parents that were willing to go to shows with me & sweet talk the door person into letting me in.  Since I don't 1) smoke or 2) buy porn, getting into shows was the only benefit to turning 18.  Oh yeah, I can't forget about voting.

Ooh ooh, and the right to be jailed! Always a fun one.

I must post on behalf of Rubberlegs. He has yet to experience a Features show. His first will be on Thursday at the Rose. It's not the best venue, I'm sure but, it's better than nothing at all. He doesn't know what he's been missing out on. Also, he is far from 17. He's a pretty bad ass guy at that. Once he experiences the all ages show and then an 18+ show. He'll see where all this is comming from.

Just so you know, I'm 22 years old but that doesn't matter. I'm not saying that there should never be an age limit on shows, I just think it would be stupid to not let anyone not yet of age join in the fun. Have fun fellas, that's what's important.

wow, so much to respond to. i've heard all sorts of things about this show at nxt gen, but as far as i know, its still on. i agree that the door policy over there is pretty whack, but hopefully that wont prevent an otherwise excellent night of music from taking place. if the money thing really is the problem, i'd be willing to fork over our share of the door to keep the features on the bill. they've been my favorite band for years, and its a great opportunity for kids who havent been able to see them to finally do so. i know its not the perfect venue to catch the features, but lets not be selfish. if you guys really love this band like you claim to...like i do, then you should be looking out for their best interest. and like it or not,  the features music is certainly something that could appeal to people under the age of 18. its an entire age bracket that could be exposed to the greatest band in the world. we should encourage this.  also, contrary to popular belief, the kids that come out to our shows really arent all that bad to be around. in fact, the majority of them are just like you and i. well behaved, mature, music lovers. sure our shows get a little rowdy at times, but thats rock and roll. i assure you that if this show goes on as planned it will be an awesome night of rock music, uninhibited by any age related barriers.

i can remeber when iris was only seventeen and that was lets see a year ago maybe.the next generation is a great place for kids to see the features im 20 and ive been a features fan since i was sixteen and if there wasn't shows like the one on the 10th i probly wouldn't even of known about the features and told all my friends how cool they were. so no matter how old you are there is still a point of how old you feel. like iris shes only 18 or 19 but it seems as though she is 50.so lighten up and enjoy another great show by the powerhouses we all know and love the features.
