TOPIC: What You're Listening To!

It's been a while and has not been done on this, the new era of the board. So...what are you listening to?

I really have to say that interning at "The Late Show" is doing wonders for my stagnant enjoyment of music. Every CD that is sent to us eventually makes its way to The Free Box and, since I'm the only intern who likes the music I do, I have no competition.

*means I got it from The Free Box

Beck "The Information"
The Decemberists "Her Majesty The Decemberists"
Franz Ferdinand "You Could Have It So Much Better"
The Go! Team "Thunder, Lightning, Strike" *
Of Montreal "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?" *
Hot Hot Heat "Elevator" *
The Grates "Gravity Won't Get You High" *
The Stills "Logic Will Break Your Heart" *
The Apples in stereo "Tone Soul Evolution"
Starlight Mints "Drowaton"
R.E.M. playlist on my iPod

And yeah, the Of Montreal album turned up a good three months before it's supposed to come out. I was way excited. I also got two copies of the Tapes 'n Tapes CD that I'm about to try out. I love The Free Box.

I no longer have control of the stereo in my house. The Peace Polliwog has taken over spinning the tunes, thankfully he enjoys the new COntrast EP, but we are getting quite the TMBG fix these days. Birdhouse in Your Soul is a huge fave.

That is quite awesome. Definitely beats the Wiggles and Kidz Bop.

Since I primarily listen to my ipod, I decided to do a "Random Rules" entry a la The Onion A.V. Club: no skipping tracks...

"Reproduce" - Komeda (Kokomemedada): The guy in the band sings this one. This album is alright, not as good as their first two.

"I'm So Free" - Lou Reed (Transformer): I like this album. I especially like the songs about pancakes and bears.

"Wedding Song" - Psychedelic Furs (s/t): My significant other put this album on here. Never heard this song before.

"Dead Disco" - Metric (Old World Underground): I saw them open up for Broken Social Scene a few years ago & I thought they were great. I don't get the same feeling when I listen to their albums.

"Luv" - Travis (The Man Who): When this album first came out, I listened to it non-stop. This song's sweet but my favorite is "As You Are"

"Beach Samba" - Astrud Gilberto (Compact Jazz): Easy breezy jazzy samba. Makes me wish I was really at the beach, doing the samba. Especially since I had to scrape ice off my windshield this morning.

"Inflammatory Writ" - Joanna Newsom (The Milk-Eyed Mender): Some people would hear this and think a crazy squirrel was singing (picture Sandy Cheeks from Spongebob Squarepants) but I think she's pretty cool.
Bombo likes bananas. If he isn't a chimpanzee, he's in trouble.

I love squirrels, but boy do I hate Joanna Newsom.

I just got an iPod nano for free with my new computer. I believe the most played list consists mostly of: Contrast EP, Emitt Rhodes, and The Beatles. Pretty boring. I win least eccentric.

I always describe her as Olive Oil, but I can hear Sandy Cheeks...
Her voice is definitely different, but her harp playing is just magical.

I've been listening a lot to the newest albums by Phoenix, Ben Kweller, Sloan, Apollo Up!, Forget Cassettes, Thom Yorke, and Beck.

I've been cheating on the Features MB with the Lollapalooza MB since this one shut down a few months back. We did a massive 11-way multi-CD swap a few weeks back. I'm wading through about 30 new mixes right now.

The more I hear the Decemberists, the more I think I would love them.

A co-worker gave me some Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder MP3s the other day. They're pretty decent. They take me back to my summers at Opryland.

This weekend I'll be getting the new Comfies EP and Luxury Liners album. I expect to wear those out, too.
Daigle is all we need to make the night complete

i'm not really ecclectic with my music as of lately, i just sort of listen to tried and true albums. it's been a lot of janis joplin, esp her "farewell song" album, live's "throwing copper" album, a friend's band stonecrossing, and aaron neville's new cd of soul classics. it's very very good, but nothing from him has been bad yet!

mystery jets & the spinto band. they are the bands that mean the most to me, along with the features of course.

and i found out this weekend that nick krill of the spinto band owns a mixer or something that the features used to record some of their stuff. if i wasn't so stunned that he said that i would have inquired more.
bang bang boom, i knew you'd get in

On our trip to Atlanta this weekend, the Peace Polliwog again took control of the CD... the choices? A mix cd I had made for a road trip a few years back (pre-iPod). We had 4 hours of Sonic Youth's "Bull in the Heather", "Teenage Riot" and Starlight Mints "Submarine #3" and "Sugar Blaster". Four songs four hours... you do the math. Vegas odds of me listening to those songs anytime soon? Off the board.

Yeah, it could be Barney... but I couldn't listen to the same Features song for four hours straight... oh wait I have. It's called shooting a music video. Check that. The Peace Froggette called at lunch and said he's now listening to Nirvana Unplugged. Must be the angst of being 2 and not neing able to go outside.

Right now De Novo Dahl's Cats & Kittens. First listen and I've gotta say it's incredible.

http://www.last.fm/user/Kid_Brian_A/?chart...rdArmMonochrome for a full list of what I've been listening to recently. Too lazy to type all of it out.

They're coming on Letterman next week. I wish that I had heard more about them so I could be excited. Perhaps a CD will make its way to the free box.
