BALTIMORE — The wife of Gov. Robert Ehrlich made an "inadvertent figure of speech" when she said she would shoot pop singer Britney Spears if she had the chance, the first lady's spokeswoman said Tuesday.

While speaking at a domestic violence conference at Hood College in Frederick, Kendel Ehrlich said it is important for women to get as much education as possible to avoid becoming dependent on anyone else.

"It is incredibly important to get that message to young women. You know, really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," Ehrlich said Friday.

Jive Records, the New York-based label that represents Spears, said in an e-mailed statement that Ehrlich had "shot her own self in the foot by promoting violence."



Shoot her anywhere from the neck up, and I'll be okay.

Hell, shoot her right between the eyes. It's a huge target.

I love the irony of that fact that she said this at a domestic violence conference. Dumbass. I would not shoot Brittney Spears. Just think, if someone had done that to Jessica Simpson years ago, my favorite TV show would never have existed. And, that would be terrible. Besides, Brittney Spears is hott.

That sounds like something you'd overhear from some tatted up chick at an Ani DiFranco concert, not from the governor's wife at a domestic violence conference.

Speaking of domestic violence, I bet the governor loves his wife right now.

And if it had happened to Nicole Brown Simpson, well...
