Upcoming shows thread
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:48:39 PM »
The old board used to be my main source of info on upcoming Nashville/Murfreesboro shows.  Maybe this one can be useful on that front, too.

I've found that things are a bit more tidy if we all keep our upcoming shows in one thread.  What do you all think?  Separate threads for each non-Features show, or just list them here.

I suppose this might be affected by how many active members we eventually recruit here..

BTW, is anyone else seeing Ben Folds tomorrow night at the Ryman?  I have two extra floor tickets for face value if anyone wants them.

Have y'all seen the lineup for Vanderbilt's Rites of Spring this year?  Flaming Lips, Okkervil River, Q-Tip, TI, NERD, Sabntigold, Grand Ole Party, KNaan and Black Joe Lewis are all playing.  For more info: www.ritesofspring.com

I'm also pumped for Death Cab at the Ryman in May.

In terms of simply knowing about what shows are coming up, the local music scene's Internet presence has come a long way in the last four or five years.  Nashville Cream is going to have a lot more shows and proably be more up-to-date.  However, the old board was unique because there were great people to help separate the wheat from the chaff.  You could always count on strong (but usually informed) opinions to help you spend your weekend more wisely.  That's what I miss.

Both the Death Cab and Coldplay shows will be very good, I'm sure.  However, I'm just not that into going to big rock concerts these days so I couldn't bring myself to even attempt to get tickets.  Flaming Lips at Rites of Spring, however, could be a different story.  They're always a lot of fun to see live...

Whaaaat? Steve Martin's coming? Man, that almost tops when we almost saw Bob Newhart on a showboat.

Steve Martin is coming, but it's not a comedy act.  It's his banjo picking group.

Yeah, it's gonna be awesome.  I can't wait to watch the funniest man alive play banjo--even if it is for only 4 or 5 songs!

No, I haven't been playing anything.  I should be, but maybe someday soon I'll pick up that old dusty guitar!

Oh yeah, I saw that on SNL a couple weeks ago. I remember it being like...kinda sad? Not at all funny, more along the type of thing your completely normal dad would do, thinking it was a hoot.

I'm sure it'll be better live, right?

I'll get to see the glow of white coming from the stage, in person.  I'm excited.  He'll probably cancel, then I'll have to sit through Amy Grant or something.

Amy Grant is a huge, raging bitch right? Someone on a radio station up here in NYC called in and said like, how nice Amy Grant was. That totally contradicts all the horror stories I've heard from living in TN.

Also, I want her to be mean. It just seems right.

Ah damn, my world is shook up. Oh well.

I remember I almost won a trip to hang out with Amy Grant at the Nasvhille Zoo in sixth grade. I didn't sell enough magazine subscriptions.

i haven't been to a show in years because there isn't a music scene anywhere near here, nor is there a gay bar.  but apparently i completely missed bonnie "prince" billy play at our community center even though i'm there every week.  (ps bonnie "prince" billy playing at our community center is the pretty much the tn equivalent of kanye playing the rockvale nursing home.)

to make up for our lack of live music, the blair waldorfs and i are about to throw down a gazillion dollars to see depeche mode at the santa barbara bowl.
