Yes, completely. It shocks me that they aren't.

You mean they're not already?  Seriously?  You can't get more famous or more rock n' roll than KISS.  How is it possible that they're not in the Hall of Fame?  I figured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame building would be painted with KISS make up.

I don't think the Velvet Underground are in there either. I enjoy halls of fames and award shows, so this has always intrigued me. I was convinced that the '80s would be a wasteland, and we'd have ten years of crappy inductees. They're somehow managing to make some relevant choices, but I wonder if they've just ran out this year. Will Bon Jovi get in? Poison? Motley Crue?

Yeah. Gene Simmons complains about it in the press a lot. One year, a couple hundred fans dressed up in Kiss regalia and protested. For the record, I think they belong in the Hall.

they were inducted in 1996 after years of petitioning from fans.

...and thumbs down to Kiss being inducted. with the way that they have raped and pillaged the marketing landscape of music, i don't see them getting in anytime soon. if this were 1997 (at the height of KissReevaluationMania), i could see them getting in. anyways, it's all a popularity contest amongst the voters (mainly record executives and VH1's advertisers). i could be wrong (what with the inane inductions over the past few years). Kiss are important, true, but they will only get in as a "we have room left on the ballot this year?" afterthought. i mean, lackluster doo wop groups from the 50's are just now allowed in the doors of the RnRHOF. i'm not knocking the band. in fact, as i have gotten older, my affinity for KISS has gone up (see: "http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/albumofthemonth/2006" as I pretty much agree with the "Archdrude" Mr. Julian Cope), but let's think realistically here, folks.

however, in my opinion, the stooges deserve it more. will the stooges ever be inducted? probably not (just like Kiss or the MC5 or Blue Oyster Cult or any number of cult acts that we all know and love).

I just think if it were called The Rock and Roll Hall of Artistic Integrity, there would be a case against Kiss. But it's called Hall of FAME and Kiss has achieved a level of fame higher than 90% of the other members of the club. And I wouldn't be surpirsed if The Stooges made it in eventually.

One would think that artistic integrity would be one of the main requirements to enter into the "hallowed hall", but apparently that isn't the case.

See Below:

(I know wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, but let's all take this into consideration)

The main criticism (of the RnRHOF) is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals who are not even musicians, such as founder Jann Wenner, former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once said:

"At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the 50s and early 60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in 70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today"

Petitions with tens of thousands of signatures were also being ignored and some groups that were signed with certain labels or companies or were affiliated with various committee members have even been put up for nomination with no discussion at all.

Another criticism is that too many artists are inducted, allowing for several lesser acts to make it in. In fifteen years, 97 different artists have been inducted. A minimum of 50% of the vote is needed to be inducted, although the final percentages are not announced and a certain number of inductees (5 in 2009) is set before the ballots are shipped. The committee usually nominates a small number of artists (9 in 2007) and they are coming from an increasing number of different genres. Several voters, including Joel Selvin, who himself is a former member of the nominating committee, didn't submit their ballots in 2007, with the reason being that they didn't feel any of the candidates were truly worthy.

The Sex Pistols, inducted in 2006, refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum a "piss stain".

Have you guys been to the museum? It really is pretty much just a glorified Hard Rock Cafe. I was kinda disappointed.

I rather enjoyed it, although I do agree it is a bit reminiscent of Hard Rock.  I actually gained an appreciation for U2 when I went as that was their top floor exhibit.  That was around 2001 I think.

KISS should be in there for sure.  Kinda funny they can't get in when they've started inducting rap and hiphop acts.

There will never be another band like KISS.  The fact that the hall of fame won't induct them just makes it look that much more ridiculous.  They changed rock and roll---I'd like to encourage everyone to pick up KISSOLOGY volume 1 just for the Cadillac High documentary---it shows just how huge and important they were in the 70s.  Plus, they were marketing geniuses who made their music something that the fans can become more involved in.  They took the formula that The Beatles had developed and improved on it.  Comic books, dolls, board games, you name it--they made it!  This is good for me and the other members of the KISS Army because as a collector and an avid flea market attendee, my life never gets boring.  I even wear the KISS shoes.  THE SHOES!  The damn shoes.  I can't believe I bought the shoes.  And I love it.  It's hillarious yet cool.

My family actually had it briefly on loan from my aunt. Unfortunately, my mom and aunt had a falling out and we lost the pinball machine as a result.
