this is a pretty decent show, i guess
you're everybody's second home
always trying to get me alone
an easy way to lose it all
always there when all else fails
over by the west side rails

The *NEW* new and improved LOST thread
« Reply #2 on: April 03, 2009, 09:26:58 AM »
I think starting a thread about Lost is a great way to lure some lurkers out of hiding.  It's like a pedophile using candy!  Great idea!

I'm a big fan of the show, and I got interested in it because of the message board.  I'd been aware of the show, but after everyone started posting about the numbers and stuff, I decided to check it out.  I've been hooked ever since.

When we left off our previous discussion, Episode 6 of Season 3 ("I Do") had just aired.  Obviously a whole bunch of stuff has happened since then, including... (old spoilers ahead)
 - Jacks saves Ben while recently-hooked-up Kate and Sawyer escape back to the main island
 - We learn more about The Others and the DHARMA initiative
 - Nikki and Paulo last for, like, two whole episodes
 - Juliet joins the good guys
 - The freighter arrives
 - Charlie dies; All of The Others' military guys are killed
 - Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, and Frank arrive on the island
 - A whole bunch of drama goes on with the freighter
 - The Oceanic Six leave the island and go home
 - ...and, of course, all of the stuff that's happened this season

So here are some topics for discussion:
 - How do you feel about the whole "time travel" situation?  Has the show jumped the shark?
 - With only a season and a half left to go, it's obviously time for the show to start answering more questions than it asks and start tying up loose ends.  Are you happy with the rate at which questions are being answered?  Too fast?  Too slow?  Just right?  Enough detail in the answers that we're getting?
 - What are your current overall theories for what's going on with the show?  Do you think you're starting to get it all figured out?
 - How do you feel about the shows impending end?  Will you be happy to see it all wrapped up, or do you wish it would go on forever?

Discuss...

I'm fine with it. It's added a new layer to the show and I'm always happier when a show utilizes the serial nature of television to go in places other mediums can't. The fact that we've had the pleasure of seeing all these characters in a ton of new and different status quos is one of the appeals of the show. No shark jump.

I'm enjoying the answers and think they're coming at a satisfactory rate. It feels like we're in the next to last season, like some big shit's coming around the corner.

I don't think I have it figured out, as I kinda have gotten into the habit of just watching it and then chillaxin for a week. I need to get back into the habit of discussing it.

I don't know what I'll do when it's over ("Dollhouse" ain't cutting it yet) but I want it to end. It has to.

I don't watch Lost. It kinda makes me feel out of touch with humanity at times.

I can't go to work on a Thursday without having watched it. That's why I'm hazy on Wednesday's episode, I watched it way too late at night.

I'm very glad that we're starting to get some answers about everything that's going on.  I've loved the "mystery" part of the show, and those are only fulfilling when you get some sort of answer.  However, I'm so used to everything being open-ended that the show almost feels different now that we're getting straight-forward answers.

For example, earlier this season, they went to The Lamp Post.  Jack asks the lady, "What is this place?"  I expected her to give a typical Lost-style answer that was vague and only led to more questions... something like, "This is a very ancient place discovered by people with a higher purpose."  But instead, she just spilled her guts and told us all about the station.

Is anyone else starting to notice this in the show?

I also love how Hurley has become a mouthpiece for the audience. His questioning of Miles in the last episode about the time travel was awesome. I'm glad that they've naturally found a way to answer questions and concerns that fans of the show have. It allows me to have more faith in the writers that they know what they're doing.

There have been a few times where I thought the show may have jumped the shark (most notably when this discussion orignally ended--a few episodes into season 3), but they always manage to steer back on course.

Heroes on the other hand...

Word from Camp Darlton has it that one of the major characters on the show will really-for-real die at the end of the season.  (Info here and here... but that second one may contain spoilers)  I've heard that it's definitely not Kate but anyone else is fair game.  So anyone want to venture a guess?  I'm leaning towards Sayid.  I think he's run his course.

I never have a bad day on Wednesday because of the promise of Lost when I get home.  Sometimes I start getting excited on Tuesday night.

I love Ben mostly, but not entirely, because he's hot.  These feelings budded sometime during Season 3, but didn't fully bloom until late in Season 4.

Also, everyone else hates Kate too, yes?
Oh my God, we're back again.

I totally agree about both Ben and Kate. I think Kate is just difficult for difficult's sake a lot of the time and I wish she'd just STOP. I also think Juliet has become kinda lame lately, which sucks because she was definitely one of my favorite things about season three.

Sun is still awesome.

And I'm in the minority because I want Claire to come back, and I miss Charlie.

i want to see what happened with claire, but i'm not worried about her. i don't think we'll see any more with her character, though, even if she makes more appearances.

***SPOILERS***

i've been steadily increasing my appetite for miles. also, glad sawyer, jack, juliet are on board with the whole "hate on kate" thing. and i thought for sure daniel had offed himself.

so, i don't even know if it's an option with this version, but i saw a button on another forum that creates a [spoilers] tag and when you post, the spoiler portion stays behind a button marked "spoiler" until someone clicks on it.

If you had some sort of inside info about the season finale or something, I'd say it merits a spoiler warning. If it happened on TV, it's fair game. If you don't want to know what already happened on Lost, DON'T READ THE LOST THREAD!

I'm with Keith.  If this were a general thread, I would say to include spoiler alerts, but once it's a LOST thread, there's no need for them unless you cheat and find info about upcoming eps.

Last night's episode was solid.  I'm glad we didn't have to wait the whole episode to "find out" that dude was Miles's father.  That's been obvious for awhile.

Do we know what happened to Faraday between the time he saw baby Charlotte and the time he gets off the sub?  Miles acted like he didn't think Dan had made the jump back in time to the 70s.

Someone had to point out to me that the dude that kidnapped Miles (and made him drop the fish taco) was one of the survivors of the most recent crash on the island.  I knew there was a connection with the "shadow of the statue" thing, but I didn't realize it was the same dude.  I just assumed I recognized him from another show like Heroes or something.
Daigle is all we need to make the night complete

yeah, that's good. i just thought i was being considerate. but if that's the consensus, that works for me.

messages between me and a friend last night:

ds: you excited for lost?
f: yes, but i'm watching delayed, DONT SEND SPOILERS!
ds @9:30: omg, how did walt get back to 1973???
ds @10:00: ok, really sorry dude, i swear that hadn't happened yet when i sent the message. you can compare times. really sorry dude.
f @ 10:05: i hate you

So, I'm working tonight, and I'm bummed about missing Lost.Isn't it just supposed to be a clip episode, though?
Yeah! We'll call it "Freedom"! I like that. But "freedom" rhymes with "weefrom," like "Weefrom the land of rock!" What? It's good!

Yeah it's a clip show, but I'm sure it'll be edited in some fancy way. They've been putting a bit more effort into the clip shows.

I'll probably watch it Friday.  What are your feelings on the Widmore/Ben fued?  I thought Ben was the good guy, then for a couple episodes, I thought Widmore was good.  Now, I'm back on Ben's side.  I think everything he's trying to do, he feels he has to for the good of the island and the Others, but most of the time, the goodness is lost between his head and excution.
